Topic: Coastal Hazards Adaptation Planning – the process and how ŌHRN members can be involved
The Christchurch City Council is starting coastal hazards adaptation planning in the Lower Heathcote to Taylors Mistake area late in 2026.
Adaptation planning is a process by which the Council, communities and rūnanga come together to develop long-term plans to respond to the impacts of coastal flooding including:
- tidal flooding along waterways such as the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River
- coastal erosion
- rising groundwater
Tom Simons-Smith, Principal Advisor Coastal Hazards and Ruby Clark, Senior Adaptation Advisor, will speak about the upcoming process, and how ŌHRN members can be involved in this important adaptation planning.
We are most fortunate to have been able to secure these leaders of the CCC Adaptation Planning team to speak to us early in the process for the Lower Heathcote. We urge members to attend this important presentation.
