Purau Terrace Drain

Naming

The reserve and the street were named after Purau, the estate of the Rhodes family on Banks Peninsula.  The Rhodes Memorial Convalescent Home was built in 1886 with help from money contributed by the sons of Robert Heaton Rhodes (1815‐1885). The street was formed on a subdivision of land belonging to the Home in 1952.  The reserve eventuated as land unsuitable for incorporating into later sub-division.

About the waterway

The waterway eventuates almost entirely from stormwater collected from Dyers Pass Road at its junction with Cracroft Terrace. This water flows through pipes into the reserve where is flows through a series of pools down a steep slope to the bottom of the reserve where it is piped a further 200m to the river.  In this later piped stretch, further stormwater is collected by the piped stormwater system.
