Seeking expressions of interest for

Chair of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network

Do you have the passion and skills to Chair the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network?

The Network is a community group committed to working collaboratively to restore the ecological health of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River and its catchment. See what we do at ohrn.nz

We are seeking expressions of interest for a new Chairperson. There may be a person in our membership who is willing to step up, or there could be someone else who would like to take a leadership role to improve the health of the Ōpāwaho.

Why do we need a new Chair?

Our current Chair signalled a year ago they would not be available to continue after our AGM in June.

What does the Chair do?

The Chair’s role is a voluntary position.

One of the primary roles of a Chair is to provide leadership to the committee, to facilitate meetings, to guide the committee members in making informed decisions, and to encourage participation from all members.

The Chair also takes responsibility for guiding the strategic direction of the Network. They work closely with the committee members to establish long-term goals and monitor progress.

As spokesperson for the Network, the Chair communicates with members and liaises with other organisations.

Key attributes

The person who is elected as Chair would ideally have:

  • previous experience in a community organisation;
  • an understanding of a catchment approach to river management, preferably within Ōtautahi Christchurch;
  • a passion for involving volunteers in catchment restoration, and the ability to lead and manage volunteers;
  • familiarity in developing and maintaining positive relationships with other organisations and agencies

What happens next?

If you are interested, or would like to know more, contact Malcolm Long, Secretary, info@ohrn.nz, 027 672 7497

Anyone wishing to be Chair would need to be nominated for the position. Nominations will be voted on at the Annual General Meeting on 26 June 2025.
