To help with the identification and, ultimately, the reduction of weeds growing within the river corridor, the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network has produce two posters identifying the more important weeds. The plants selected to be on the posters are definitely not the only weeds of importance – we just had to make a selection to fit two sides of an A3 poster.
Weed Posters
Stop weeds taking over
This is a listing of common weeds likely to be found in your property. These are weeds that, if they were removed from your property would help the natural biodiversity of the river corridor.
Birds and the wind help spread many weed seeds beyond your property, and weeds themselves, if left to their own devices will take over. Use this handy two-sided poster to inform your weed-removal activities.

Weeds of the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River
This is a listing of the most common weeds that can be seen as you walk beside the river, plus a couple of nasty weeds that we would like you to keep a lookout for and to report if you see them.
Some of these weeds are being actively controlled to prevent them spreading. Others have become so prevalent that it it is not possible to remove them from the riverbanks.
